100% Sangiovese grapes and vineyards. The vineyards of Casato Prime Donne are organically cultivated and have a total area of 16 hectares, 3 of which are always destined for the production of Rosso di Montalcino. They are located in the northern area of Montalcino, the coolest one, on a hill of 225 m asl with a splendid southern exposure. The soil is of neo-Quaternary origin composed of clays and marine sands. The vineyards are divided into 6 small particles and contain 5,000 vines per hectare. They are cultivated with spurred cordon. The average production is 60 quintals of grapes per hectare.

Rosso di Montalcino is the younger and smiling brother of Brunello obtained from the same Sangiovese grape and in the same area of Montalcino but destined to be drunk first.

Montalcino, the land where Sangiovese grapes express themselves best in the world and give birth to centenary wines, also manages to produce a great young red. It seems counterintuitive but it is not. It demonstrates the wisdom of the winemakers of this area. In fact, the characteristics of the future wine are born in the bunches; the grapes destined for Brunello or Rosso di Montalcino are cultivated for this destiny right from birth. The poorer the soils of the former, the more fertile those of the latter. Fewer clusters for the first, slightly more for the second. Especially at the time of harvest, the specificities of each must come out by choosing precisely the day of the harvest and making wine in a more delicate way.

Location: Casato Prime Donne is a 40-hectare property on the north side of Montalcino. It has been owned by the family of Donatella Cinelli Colombini at least since the end of the sixteenth century when her ancestors already paid taxes for the agricultural products that were grown there. In the last three generations it has passed from mother to daughter: it belonged to the grandmother Giuliana Tamanti, then to her mother Francesca Colombini and Donatella will leave it to her daughter Violante.

Donatella Cinelli Colombini has been running this company since 1998 and has given it back the splendor of when her ancestors spent their honeymoon there. You have also given this place a special meaning by making it the first Italian winery where only women work, a flag for female enology. Every year Casato Prime Donne finances an award that bears her name and values women who are an example and encouragement to the female gender. Each winner dictates a dedication that remains permanently along a meditative path in the vineyards and in the cellar. Next to each writing there is a work of art by a Tuscan artist that further enriches the splendid territory of the Valdorcia where the winery is located
