The year 1900 represents a milestone in the history of Caldaro's wine economy: 70 local winegrowers come together in the "Erste Kellereigenossenschaft Kaltern", the first social winery in Caldaro. Their goal is to deal directly with the vinification of their grapes and the marketing of their wines. In 1925 a further important step followed, consisting in the establishment of the New Social Cellar, called “Neue Kellereigenossenschaft”. Erste + Neue Kellerei originated in 1991 from the merger of the two cooperatives in 1986, accompanied by the incorporation of the Baron Josef di Pauli winery. Today there are 422 proud winemakers who give their harvest every year. The terraces on which their vineyards work lie in the picturesque landscape that surrounds Lake Caldaro and climbs up to the plateau at the foot of the Mendola. The total area planted with vines extends for 260 hectares. The grapes coming from these Crus and from the best areas of the territory are given a distinct treatment that allows to obtain those top wines, capable of enthusing the experts. Strengthened by the experience gained over several generations thanks to an innate instinct to experiment, Erste + Neue today works with wisdom 13 excellent wine varieties, setting itself the goal of highlighting the character of each wine, keeping it unaltered and indeed emphasizing its specific refinements . The result is given by dry and harmonious wines that stand out for their captivating aroma and their sublime elegance.
